Students from Malambu Basic Elementary enjoy donated hula hoops.

We’re happy to announce there will be two Malambo Grassroots fundraisers this October!

On October 9, Catherine Hopkins a fellow Zambian raised in Chingola, ran her first marathon in Portland, Oregon in support of Malambo Grassroots. There is still time to support her, so if anyone would like to make a donation, then please go to our donate page, and specify that the donation is for “Malambo Grassroots / Catherine’s marathon.”

Here’s how the marathon went, in Catherine’s own words:

“4 hours and 52 minutes! I have lost toenails, got blisters in places I never knew I had, can’t walk further than my kitchen….but that’s it. A massive thank you to all those who sponsored me. Those last three miles were like hell on earth but as so many of you had so kindly sponsored a great cause there was no way I was dropping out.”

Then, on October 15, there will be a Scrabble / Bridge / Double Bridge fundraiser in West Vancouver.

WHO WE ARE:

Malambo Grassroots oversees a number of projects in southern Zambia, where the BaTonga people live. Our projects assist Zambians as they work toward making a better life for themselves and their families in a drought-stricken part of the country. We focus on income-generating projects, education, community programs, and emergency assistance.

In 2011, we were busy with several projects, from building houses for teachers, to improving our chicken business. Please read our UPDATE to find out the most recent Malambo Grassroots news.

We are a member-project of Rose Charities Canada. Rose Charities Canada is a registered, non-profit organization with the Canada Revenue Agency, registration number: 859442303RR0001.
